The COP26 meeting is being held in Glasgow, Scotland between 31 October – 12 November 2021. It is hailed as the global climate summit for nations to meet and make pledges to avert climate change over the coming decades.
So, what is the programme of events for the national representatives and the negotiations over the two weeks of the COP26?
With COP26 going ahead in November, what is the programme of negotiations that we expect from the COP meeting?
Here is the outline of the COP26 programme…
The Opening of the COP26 meeting will start on Sunday, 31 October with the Procedural Opening of the Negotiations followed by the next two days for the World Leaders Summit bring together world leaders in the COP to put forward high level ambition and action towards securing global net zero and keeping 1.5 degrees in reach; adapting to protect communities and natural habitats; and mobilising finance.
These first three days are then followed by seven individual days for the COP to explore specific themes, such as Finance for the commitment to mobilise finance to deliver make good on the promise to mobilise at least $100bn in climate finance per year, and onto Energy, Youth and Public empowerment, Nature, Adaptation, loss and damage, Gender and Science and Innovation, Transport and Cities, Regions & the built environment.
The final day will be the Closure of Negotiations will, hopefully, good news on the outcome of the negotiations on all the themes and especially, the National Determined Contributions and Global Stocktake mechanism, which will drive the commitment for the Paris Agreement Goal to keep within 1.5 degree Celsius.
