Compliance Classification Scheme published

CICS Manual

The Environment Agency uses the Compliance Classification Scheme (CCS) to classify environmental permit breaches.

In the event of an incident, the Agency will look at whether the conditions of environmental permit have been complied with and, also, look at the consequences of you of any failure to meet those conditions, such as:

  • What might happen to the environment
  • Any work they would need to do to deal with a breach or to secure compliance

Although, this document is for Environment Agency staff. It is a valuable insight into how the CCS works for any operator of an environmental permit site or those involved in a pollution incident.
