ISO 14004:2016 – Will it help you in implementing ISO 14001:2015

It is good to see that ISO 14004:2016 has been published by BSI in the United Kingdom & copies should similarly be available from other national standards bodies around the world.

It has taken additional time to develop as it provides support to those organisations seeking to implement an Environmental Management System (EMS) based on ISO 14001:2015, which itself was only published in September 2015.

This guidance standard is, often, the poor cousin to ISO 14001, if the sales numbers are taken into account but its stands as an important part of any implementation of an EMS based on ISO 14001:2015.

The standard includes practical guidelines on the successful implementation and operation of an environmental management system, such as the new context requirements, environmental performance and compliance evaluations. It provides a level of support to those who might not have the resources or confidence to interpret ISO 14001:2015 on their own or more advanced users, who want to understand the background to the ISO 14001 requirements and options for implementation.

I have obtained my copy to review the options for advice to my clients on their transition from ISO 14001:2004 or for new EMS implementations & would recommend it to assist your certification to ISO 14001:2015.

A copy can be obtained from BSI here & ISO here

Are you likely to purchase ISO 14004:2016 or do you have other methods for interpreting and implementing the new ISO 14001?
