As 2014 will end in the next few days, It is important to recognise the role of soil in all aspects of our lives.
In view of the importance of soils, the United Nations has declared 2015 the Year of Soils to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of soil, for both food security and essential ecosystem functions.
I agree this subject is not something that many of us think about at this time of the year but important none-the-less for the survival of all the life that benefits from soil, whether by plants, animal life or its many uses by mankind.
To fully understand the importance of soils, the European Environment Agency has produced a short video in which several of its project managers talk about this important resource.
