This post provides a timely update on the key decisions in relation to International Standards for Accreditation made by the ISO Committee on Conformity Assessment (CASCO) and its Working Groups.
The summary of key decisions is as follows:
ISO/IEC 17021, Conformity assessment – Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems
The International Standard for the operation of a Certification Body issuing Management Systems Standards certification, such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO/IEC 27001 and OHSAS 18001 under accreditation has had a ballot on the content of the Draft International Standard (DIS).Whilst the ballot was favourable, it did trigger more than 1000 comments.
The Working Group decided to go for a DIS 2 ballot that will be issued in August with the ballot closing in November. The next meeting of the WG will be in January 2015.
ISO/IEC TS 17021 – 6, Competence requirements for auditing and certification of business continuity management (BCM) systems
ISO/IEC TS 17021 – 7, Competence requirements for auditing and certification of road traffic safety (RTS) management systems
The two International Standard describe the competency requirements for Certification Body Auditors and the relevant certification processes for BCM and RTS under accreditation.
Both Draft Technical Specifications (DTS) were approved at the beginning of July.
ISO/IEC 17011:2004 Conformity assessment – General requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies
The International Standard for the operation of National Accreditation Bodies for their accreditation of Certification Bodies issuing Management Systems Standards certification was given a recommendation by the CASCO Chairman’s Policy and Coordination (CPC) group for the revision was approved on 13th July 2014.
