Today (17 January 2021) was to be the date for the application of IAF MD 11:2019 on the application of ISO/IEC 17021-1 for the planning and delivery of audits of Integrated Management Systems (IMS).
However, it was withdrawn on 16 December 2020 by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) as there were concerns about the changes, such as the addition of the Extended Audit Approach (EAA) option and associated requirements, which were not written in a way to ensure consistent application and may have caused confusion in the marketplace.
Additionally, there were concerns that the EAA option did not ensure conformity to the auditor competence requirements in ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015 and the time reductions allowed by EAA were not valid based on the inaccurate premise for the use of audit team resources.
If you want to understand what would have been intended, this is the link to IAF MD 11:2019 IAF Mandatory Document for the Application of ISO/IEC 17021-1 for Audits of Integrated Management Systems (Issue 2, Version 2, issued on 03 July 2019; application from 17 January 2021).
Now, all accredited, Certification Bodies should continue to use IAF MD 11:2013 IAF Mandatory Document for Application of ISO/IEC 17021 for Audits of Integrated Management Systems (IMS)
(Issue 1 Version 3, issued on 16 December 2013; Application immediate) as this continues to provide the requirements for the application of ISO/IEC 17021 for the planning and delivery of audits of IMS and, if appropriate, the certification of an organization’s management system(s) against two or more sets of audit criteria/standards.
