Greenhouse Gas verification and validation is changing. Here is the latest on the transition period to help you move to ISO 14065:202x.
It should be recalled that ISO 14065 is the International Standard, which specifies principles and requirements for bodies that undertake validation or verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) assertions in its current 2013 version.
This International Standard is under revision to embrace the wider field of environmental information & will be compatible with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17029:2019.
ISO 14065:202x is likely to be published in 2020 or 2021, hence it is referred to in this article as ISO 14065:202x.
At their recent International Accreditation Forum (IAF) Annual General Assembly in Frankfurt, Germany held on 28 and 30 October 2019 made a resolution for the transition period. This resolution is required to be implemented and has application for all National Accreditation Bodies, who are members of the IAF.
The IAF Resolution 2019-19 discussed under Agenda Item 9 on the Transitional Arrangements for 14065:202x agreed:
The General Assembly, acting on the recommendation of the Technical Committee, resolved that the transition arrangement for the revision of ISO 14065 shall be three years from the date of publication of ISO 14065:202x.
Within this transition timeline:
- ABs shall be ready to carry out transition assessment against the new version of ISO 14065 within 12 months from the date of publication.
- All accreditation against the new version of ISO 14065 shall require accreditation to ISO/IEC 17029.
- Where local legislation/regulation requires accredited validation/verification referencing ISO 14065:2013 and has not been amended to reference the new version of ISO 14065, the use of ISO 14065:2013 in accredited validation/verification may be extended.
