Greenhouse Gas verification and validation is changing. Here is the latest on the transition period to help you move to ISO 14064-3:2019.
It should be recalled that ISO 14064-3 is the International Standard with the specification with guidance for the verification and validation of greenhouse gas statements.
At their recent International Accreditation Forum (IAF) Annual General Assembly in Frankfurt, Germany held on 28 and 30 October 2019 made a resolution for the transition period. This resolution is required to be implemented and has application for all National Accreditation Bodies, who are members of the IAF.
The IAF Resolution 2019-18 discussed under Agenda Item 9 on the Transitional Arrangements for ISO 14064-3:2019 agreed:
The General Assembly, acting on the recommendation of the Technical Committee, resolved that the transition arrangement for the revision of ISO 14064-3 shall be four years from 30 April 2019.
Any Greenhouse Gas Validation and Verification engagements commenced after 30 April 2023 shall be performed to ISO 14064-3:2019.
Within this transition timeline:
- Accreditation Bodies (ABs) shall be ready to carry out ISO 14065 assessments using 14064-3: 2019 for conformity assessment schemes that reference ISO 14064-3 within 18 months from 30 April 2019.
- Where local legislation/regulation requires accredited validation/verification referencing ISO 14064-3:2006 and has not been amended to reference ISO 14064-3:2019, the use of ISO 14064-3:2006 in accredited validation/verification may be extended.
