ISO 14001 enters Committee Draft 2 stage

As you will recall, the publication of next revision to ISO 14001 is scheduled for early- to mid-2015.

The current stage towards publication has reached the Committee Draft 2 (CD2) stage in the international standards development process.

It is, often, difficult to obtain Committee Drafts as they are not, generally, available for public circulation outside the ISO and National committees. A special arrangement through the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as made this document available to a wider audience.

It should be noted that Committee Drafts are an early stage in the development process, not a mature stage for public enquiry or use by organisations implementing or maintaining an Environmental Management System (EMS).

The United States Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO TC 207, the group responsible for developing consensus positions on ISO 14001 in the US, is currently collecting additional feedback from stakeholders as it continues its work on a national view.

Therefore, all comments will be collected, evaluated, and submitted under Technical Advisory Group 207.  In order for your feedback to be considered, you should use the ISO comment template reference the line of text on which you are commenting and offer solutions. Comments in the template should be sent to standards@asq.org no later than 6 December 2013.

Similar arrangements are likely to be applicable to other countries, such as the United Kingdom, are being coordinated by the British Standards Institution (BSI) with special note that the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) is coordinating environmental specialists views by e-mail at technical@iema.net before a deadline of 16 December 2013.
