An interesting and novel look at recycling has been started by PG Tips in conjunction with Recyclebank to raise consumer awareness of tea bag recycling through a social media campaign.
Any tea drinker will be familiar with the PG Tips brand owned by Unilever, who as part of their Sustainable Living Plan are committed to halving the waste associated with its products by 2020 with tea bags account for its biggest waste footprint in the UK.
The campaign uses the PG Tips Facebook page and Recyclebank’s own website to engage in the campaign will be given the chance to learn and earn rewards which convert into money off coupons for PG Tips products. This is coupled with the support of Brentwood Borough Council, Chelmsford Council and WRAP in an awareness raising campaign to encourage Essex residents to recycle their used tea bags.
The current impact of the Facebook page has led to the engagement with 325,000 fans in discussions about tea bag waste through a recycling challenge with more than 4 in 10 consumers (44%) are not aware that it is possible to recycle tea bags against the backdrop of more than 8 in 10 (82%) saying that they might or would consider recycling them with more information.
