First Green Economy Council Meeting

The Government is moving forward on their Green Agenda with the first meeting of a group of high level business leaders appointed to the UK government’s new Green Economy Council was held this week  (16 February 2011).

The Council will advise ministers on green growth policies such as infrastructure, innovation, investment and “unnecessary regulation” with early discussions covering the green economy roadmap setting out the government’s long-term strategy for climate change and the environment jointly developed by the departments for business, energy and environment, which should launch later in the spring.

It is too early to judge the direction and influence that the Council may have on the Government’s Green Agenda but the much promised green economy roadmap will establish the credibility of the Council in the eyes of business and the environmental profession.
