UKAS Technical Bulletin – Imminent Publication of ISO 50001: 2018 published

UKAS Technical Bulletin ISO 50001:2018

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) have already posted a Technical Bulletin – Imminent Publication of ISO 50001: 2018 earlier in July 2018 but it is most appropriate to reiterate the contents of this Technical Bulletin following the publication of ISO 50001:2018.

The UKAS Bulletin recognises that ISO 50001:2018 brings with it a number of technical changes along with the application of the Annex SL High Level structure similar to the changes already found in ISO 14001:2015 & ISO 9001:2015.

The groundwork of the UKAS Bulletin was laid by a IAF Resolution for the transition arrangements and the UKAS transition process will be based on this, Resolution 2017-14, which reads as follows.

Transitional Arrangements for the revision of ISO 50001:2011 – The General Assembly, acting on the recommendation of the Technical Committee, resolved that the Transitional Arrangement for the Revision of ISO 50001:2011 Energy Management Systems – Requirements with guidance for use, be three years from the date of publication of the revised standard. All ISO 50001:2011 certifications shall expire or be withdrawn at the end of the transition period.

Within this transition timeline:

UKAS propose to publish a further communication detailing the transition process. Until that time, UKAS-accredited Certification Bodies have been urged to review ISO 50001:2018 and start to develop a gap analysis and implementation plan as part of the transition process.
